September

September Destinations in China

September is one of the best months to travel in China from a weather perspective. There are fewer tourists in September compared to the peak summer vacation season and the National Day holiday in October, which means a better travel experience.

The traditional Mid-Autumn Festival usually falls in September, which is not only culturally rich, but also packed with Chinese tourists. We recommend the 6 best places to visit: Beijing、Fenghuang Ancient Town、Shanghai、 Yuanyang、Chengdu and Huangshan

1. Beijing - The Great Wall and skiing in the snow

■Beijing has four distinct seasons: a warm spring breeze (sometimes accompanied by sandstorms), a scorching summer, a high fall, and a slightly cool winter. Autumn is therefore the peak season for visiting Beijing, but the most recommended month is September.

■Lower rainfall (46 mm (2 inches)) and moderate temperatures (average 14 °C (57 °F)-26 °C (79 °F)) can make your trip to Beijing smoother and more enjoyable.

■Beijing is home to some of China’s most beautiful World Heritage sites, such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and the Temple of Heaven. You can maximize your appreciation of China’s culture and history in this historic capital.

2. Fenghuang Ancient Town

■Fenghuang Ancient Town, a beautiful ancient town by the mountains and the water, is famous for its beautiful natural scenery, unique wooden architecture, and colorful ethnic customs (especially the Miao and Tujia).

■Overall, Phoenix Ancient Town is worth visiting all year round. However, to see the most beautiful Phoenix Ancient City, spring and fall are recommended.

■However, spring is often characterized by drizzling rain, which brings some inconvenience to outdoor activities, so fall, especially September, is the best time to visit this beautiful ancient town.

■Cooler weather, clear skies, fewer crowds (since the Chinese summer vacation is over) and rare rainfalls will make your trip smoother.

■It is still not recommended to visit the town on weekends and Chinese public holidays as there are more tourists and higher prices in hotels and restaurants.

3. Shanghai

■Shanghai is always popular, but September is especially good because the weather is more pleasant and there are fewer crowds than in summer or early October.

■You can stroll along the Bund on the banks of the Huangpu River, admiring the historic buildings and glittering skyscrapers at the same time. Or, you can take a cruise and enjoy the classic skyline views of Shanghai.

■Or, you can climb the Shanghai Center Tower, the tallest building in Shanghai, for a bird’s eye view of the city.

■In September, the cooler climate of the surrounding water towns makes them even better for exploring. Why not take a day trip to Zhujiajiao to experience the fascinating canals, bridges and architecture, as well as a leisurely Penny Boat ride.

4. Yuanyang

■Yuanyang is a county in southeastern Yunnan Province, famous for its terraced rice fields. The magnificent views from the scenic terraces during the fall harvest are absolutely breathtaking. When the rice is ripe, the hills are dyed a vibrant golden color and the terraced structures form countless layers of gold.

■The terraces wind upward from the valley floor, and from a distance, they look like giant chains or ribbons, winding parallel and layered along the contours of the hillside.
